Toyoda Gosei expands technical development capabilities in India

Relocation and extension of airbag development centre and support facilities in Manesar
Kiyosu, Japan – Toyoda Gosei Co. Ltd has relocated and enlarged its existing engineering and sales office to the new Toyoda Gosei Technical Center India – a branch office of Toyoda Gosei Minda India, based in Manesar, Haryana.
Focused on the development, engineering and sales of airbags, other products, the 1,300m2 facility houses equipment for airbag deployment tests, impactor testing and environmental degradation analysis, among other equipment.
As of December 2023, the R&D unit had 34 employees, with plans in place to increase the size of the workforce to 66 by December 2028.
According to Toyoda Gosei, the relocation from Gurgaon, is part of plans to optimise its development and production network in response to growing demand from the automotive industry in India, and worldwide.
Another driver, it said, is increasing awareness of automobile safety, more vehicles are being equipped with airbags to protect occupants during traffic accidents.
With this increased technical development capacity, Toyoda Gosei “will better meet growing demands for safety systems and increase its business in the rapidly growing Indian automotive market,” said its 28 Dec release.
“By enhancing its technical development capacity, Toyoda Gosei will be able to respond more quickly to the product development needs of automakers in India,” added the statement.
Together with the introduction of airbag assessment equipment and facilities, the company said it also plans to double its number of engineers in the coming years.
