Goodyear repurposing TBR factory for aircraft tire production

Majority of plant’s commercial tire production to be moved to other Goodyear facilities
Danville, Virginia – Goodyear is planning repurpose its truck & bus radial tire production facility in Danville for the production of aircraft tires, the US group has announced.
The move is part of Goodyear’s global transformation plan, Goodyear Forward, introduced in late 2023 year to enhance profitability and increase shareholder value.
As part of the plan, Goodyear said it intended “to refocus” the Danville facility on mixing and the Aviation sector.
Most of the Virginia plant’s commercial tire production will be moved to other Goodyear facilities, the group said in a 14 Jan statement to ERJ.
The process is intended to strengthen the Danville plant’s competitiveness, Goodyear added without providing further details.
The Akron-based tire maker is discussing staffing impacts at its Danville facility with the United Steelworkers (USW) with the goal to "preserve as many jobs as possible."
Operational since 1966, the Danville facility employs 2,000 and is Goodyear’s only plant to manufacture aviation tires in North America.
