Partnership covers supply of RFID tags for consumer and commercial tires
Milan, Italy – Italian smart tag manufacturer Beontag has announced a new partnership with Kumho Tire to incorporate its TireTag RFID technology into new commercial and consumer tires made by the Korean tire maker.
The agreement was reached following “years of R&D development and months of reliability tests” by the two partners, said Beontag in a 10 April statement.
The new connected tire, it said, is “exceptionally durable and reliable, capable of withstanding high temperatures and pressures through years of heavy use.”
The RFID-enabled tires will provide the ability to trace the entire life cycle of a tire, from production to disposal and recycling.
The traceability element will comply with the upcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Product Regulations (ESPR) regulations.
Europe's ESPR rules, which mandate the need for 'digital product passports', will come into effect for tires from 2028-2030.
According to Kumho Tire official Jihon Park, the Korean tire maker has been producing RFID-enabled tires since 2013.
“Beontag’s technical expertise and collaborative approach were instrumental in helping us meet our rigorous standards and enhance our technology,” Park added.
Using the technology, the tire maker expects to provide “greater quality and reliability” to its customers.
