Expects delivery of new milling line to improve output, rCB particle size
Montreal, Quebec – Canadian tire recycler Ecolomondo Corp. is advancing the commercialisation of its end-of-life tires (ELTs) pyrolysis operation with the addition of a new milling line.
The company started trial production at its recycling facility in Hawkesbury, Ontario, last April: using its 'thermal decomposition process' (TDP) to process scrap tires into recovered carbon black (rCB).
At the final stages of the trial, Ecolonomdo reported recently that it discovered a "major deficiency” in the rCB milling line that was already installed.
After months of testing, the milling line was found to be incapable of achieving the promised output of 1,600 lbs per hour of rCB.
The line also failed to yield a particle size of 10-15 microns, as expected and required by most of the Ecolomondo’s rCB off-takers.
Expected to be delivered this month, the new milling line will have a capacity of 2,200 lbs per hour of rCB and produce particle sizes of 10-15 microns.
Once installed, Ecolomondo expects to begin commissioning in February.
When fully ramped up, the plant is designed to process '1980 batches – 15,000 lbs each – of waste tires per year' and produce 5.3 kilotonnes of rCB.
The plant can also yield 42,700 barrels of oil, 1,800 tonnes of steel, 1,600 tonnes of process gas and 850 tonnes of fibre per year.
