Washington – Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has recalled 1,900 tires in the US due to a potential puncture on the sidewall of the tires and consequent possible risk of air-loss and crash.
The affected tires are certain Falken Wildpeak AT3W with size 265/70R17 115T and Wildpeak HT02 with size LT235/85R16 120/116S tires, the company said in a recall announcement 7 Dec.
Manufactured at SRI's plant in Tonawanda, New York, the tires were produced between 26 June and 22 July, reported the Japanese group.
SRI explained that “a broken component of the curing press” could have potentially punctured tires at exit from curing press.
The curing press was repaired later in August, said SRI in documents supplied to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The affected tires with the puncture may leak air and therefore do not comply with the performance requirements of US safety standards.
