London-based start-up targets production at “brand-new carbon-neutral tire factory”
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – UK-based electric vehicle (EV) tire start-up Enso plans to manufacture its tires "at a brand-new, carbon-neutral factory."
The facility will "produce safer, more durable, more energy-efficient and more affordable tires, with 100% renewable energy," Enso stated 6 Dec.
The project was signalled at the end of a statement in which the company declared a committment to “fully decarbonise" its tires by 2030.
To that end, Enso said it would “switch entirely” to renewable, recyclable, bio-based and low-carbon raw materials: completely phasing out all fossil fuel-based materials.”
Enso's statement – addressed to the UN climate change conference in Dubai – did not provide further details about the new tire production facility.
Founder and CEO Gunnlaugur Erlendsson said: "We are committed to decarbonising our entire supply-chain by 2030. We call on the tire industry and our partners to rise to this challenge.
"Equally, we call upon all our global and industry leaders at COP28 to show courage here in Dubai and agree to phase-out fossil-fuels."
In February 2022, Enso signed a long-term partnership agreement with Sétif, Algeria-based tire maker IRIS, for the manufacture of its EV tires. (ERJ report)
