New rubber to enable “increased sustainability, safety, optimised throughput and increased uptime”
Helsinki – Finnish industrial machinery maker Metso Outotec Corp. has introduced a new ‘sustainable’ rubber which is claimed to have up to 25% longer wear life compared to its predecessor.
Skega Life, to be part of Metso’s mill-lining portfolio, enables “increased sustainability, safety, optimised throughput and increased uptime”, said a 27 Nov Metso release.
Developed in-house, the rubber is designed to have “very good wear resistance in grinding mills processing highly abrasive ores”, said Fredrik Johansson, global product manager, rubber and poly-met mill linings.
According to Johansson, mill liners play a crucial role in the mining process and must meet demanding in-use conditions in order to enhance overall process reliability.
Furthermore, the longer wear life of the new rubber compound reduces CO2 emissions and leads to less liner material ending up in the tailings, Metso's statement added.
