Certain chemicals ‘missing’ during compound mixing of tires, manufactured in Thailand
Washington – Sentury Tire Thailand is recalling just under 9,000 tires due to ‘improper curing’ of the base tread layer of the tires.
The affected tires were produced between 23 and 30 April in Rayong, Thailand and include 10 brands such as Arroyo, Landsail, Lexani and Mavis, the manufacturer announced 22 Nov.
In a document to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Sentury said it was prompted to investigate production following a tire failure report from a US retail costumer last month.
After an internal investigation, the tire maker identified that certain tires may have not properly cured due to “missing chemicals during the compound mixing process for tire's base tread layer”.
If improper curing occurs, it went on to add, the tread can detach, increasing the risk of a crash.
