Nokia, Finland – Nokian Tyres says it has reached one of its main CO2 emissions-reduction targets seven years ahead of schedule.
The Finnish group has lowered CO2 emissions from its tire plants by 52% compared to a 2015 baseline – a goal it had aimed to achieve by 2030.
According to Nokian, direct CO2 emissions from its factories were estimated at 347kg per tonne of tires produced this year, compared to 723kg per tonne in 2015.
Nokian added that its CO2 emissions level of 420kg per tonne of tires produced in 2022 – compared to equivalent figures of between 700kg and 1,100kg reported by most other tire makers.
Furthermore, the Finnish tire maker said 2 Nov that it is “progressing rapidly” towards a level of less than 200kg of CO2 emissions per a tonne of tires.
“We consider it important to cut the emissions to zero as soon as technically possible,” commented Teppo Huovila, VP quality, sustainability and supply operations.
