Goodyear completes ‘largest solar panel installation’ at China tire plant
Project at Pulandian plant expected to save 17ktpa of carbon emissions over 25 years
Shanghai, China – Goodyear has completed its "largest solar panel installation to date" at the group’s tire manufacturing plant in Dalian, China.
The project at Pulandian in the eastern Chinese port city, involved the installation of more than 29,700 solar panels to power the factory, Goodyear reported 30 Oct.
The panels, said the tire maker, are estimated to reduce carbon emissions from purchased electricity by 17 kilotonnes per annum over 25 years.
The project is aligned with Goodyear’s drive to switch to renewable energy for all processes, with a mid-term goal of 100% renewable power for its operations by 2030.
According to the Akron group, it can already produce 28 megawatts of electricity with solar panels installed across its Asia-Pacific operations.
Globally, the group operates onsite solar power generation systems at 10 facilities, with a total capacity of 30 megawatts.
The Asian facilities with solar panels are located in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, according to Nathaniel Madarang, president, Goodyear Asia-Pacific.
“We expect to continue to add additional onsite solar capacity in our region helping us to reach our corporate-wide 2030 and 2040 goals,” he added.
