Warsaw – Contec SA is expanding the capacity for processing end-of-life tires (ELTs) at its production plant in Szczecin, Poland, the company has announced.
On completion, said Contec, the plant will have a nominal capacity to process 33,000 tons of ELTs per year – an “almost threefold” increase on the current total.
The project, to bolster Contec's production of recovered carbon black, pyrolysis oil and steel, has been supported by a €15-million, fund-raising round, noted its 26 Oct statement.
Expansion of the Szczecin plant is already in progress, with the new production lines scheduled for start-up in the first half of 2024, the company stated.
The project, it added, marks an “important milestone” within Contec global development’ strategy, which includes commissioning at least four new plants by 2027.
The expansion will “strengthen our position in delivering low-carbon-footprint products to manufacturing industry,” said Krzysztof Wróblewski, CEO of Contec.
Contec is “contributing to a more sustainable future and we invite our current and future customers to join us on this quest,” Wróblewski further commented.
Contec is “the only company in the world” using molten salt as a heat transfer medium, according to its statement.
The proprietary technology employed, it claims, creates conditions for a safer, more efficient, and economical production method.
