Meetings will examine information provided for consultation process 'for the purpose of opinion development'
Helsinki – The European Chemical Agency committees for risk assessment (RAC) and socio-economic analysis (SEAC) will next month review feedback on proposed restrictions on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
On 29 Nov, the RAC will discuss the universal PFAS “state-of-play of consultation comments and workplan for 2024”, according to an ECHA release.
SEAC will address the same topic in the afternoon of the same day, added the 18 Oct statement from the Helsinki-based agency.
Both meetings will be for the purpose of “opinion development” and will not discuss adoption, ECHA pointed out.
ECHA has reported receiving around 5,600 comments from 4,400 organisations, companies and individuals on its proposed restrictions on the use of PFAS in the European Economic Area.
The ban, proposed by Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, targets more than 10,000 substances, including fluorinated polymers such as PTFE and FKM/FFKM elastomers, as early as 2025.
