Sumitomo Rubber Industries has claimed a ‘Japan first’: rolling out tires equipped with RFID tags. Starting in October, SRI said it has becoming the “first domestic manufacturer” to commercially produce tires with RFID tags, which enhance the traceability of tires. The target products are Dunlop's "e. Enasave SP148," a ribbed tire for EV route buses, and all-season tire for taxis, "All Season Maxx AS1”. The tags can provide data regarding manufacture, sales and use and, thereby, improve safety and efficiency, while increasing the number of retreads.
