General Science starts construction work on €180m Cambodia expansion

Previously announced project to add production capacity for 3.5m passenger car tires and 750k truck & bus tires
Sihanoukville, Cambodia – Jiangsu General Technology Co. (General Science) has begun construction work on an expansion project at its Cambodian tire production plant, which came into operation May last year.
General Tire Technology (Cambodia) broke ground on the Yuan1.4 billion (€180 million) investment 12 Jan, to increase production of high-performance radial tire project, reported the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia.
As previously reported by ERJ, the 18-month project will add capacity for 3.5 million units of semi-steel radial passenger car tires and 750,000 all-steel truck bus tires per year at the plant, inaugurated in April last year.
The first phase of the project will have an annual output of 5 million semi-steel radial tires and 900,000 all-steel radial tires.
According to the release by the Chamber of Commerce, the factory currently has a daily output of over 10,000 units and is expected to reach full production in the first half of this year.
Once the expansion is completed, the site in Sihanoukville Port Special Economic Zone will have total capacity to produce 8.5 million units of PCR tires and 1.6 million units of TBR tires per year.
General Science has previously indicated that tires manufactured at the Cambodian facility will be mainly exported to the US, Europe and Brazil.
The company is third Chinese tire producer to manufacture in Cambodia, in addition to Sailun Cambodia and Doublestar.
Another key manufacturer Wanli Tire has also announced plans for a $500 million tire factory in Cambodia and is currently carrying out feasibility studies in the country.
