Shenyang local development commission gives greenlight to conversion project
Shenyang, China – Michelin is continuing to realign its production in China with a new conversion project introduced at its manufacturing site in Shenyang.
The French group has been given the go-ahead to upgrade the site with effective energy-saving targets, said Shenyang Development and Reform Commission 30 Dec 2024.
Costed at Yuan292 million (€38 million), the project will add a capacity for the production of 830,000 high-performance passenger car tires per annum once completed.
Furthermore, it will have low energy consumption rates, including for electricity and heat and fresh water.
The project will be completed in the existing factory, making use of five buildings with a construction area of 78,100m2.
Michelin plans to purchase additional moulding machines, vulanisers, quality control and tire uniformity testing equipment as well as related auxiliary machinery for transport and storage of tires.
Last year, Michelin said it was ending the production of truck tires in China and Poland as part of a capacity alignment for targeted markets.
This included the closure of the truck tire plant in Shenyang and introduction of a Yuan200-million project at the site to increase the production of passenger car tires by 1.3 million units per year. (ERJ report)
