Virtual reality system to help tire maker reduce costs and time required for product development
Seoul - Nexen Tire is to enhance its digital design capabilities with an in-house developed simulation system employing virtual reality technology (VR).
Developed by Nexen central research institute in Magok, Seoul, the VR system allows users to work with real-life scale models of tires in a virtual space.
Claiming to be the first Korean tire maker to use VR design analysis, Nexen said it intends to use the technology to improve product-quality.
The company will also use the system to review tread performance and sidewall design to "evaluate sensitivity" of tires.
The technology will also reduce the number of physical iterations, cutting development time and cost, Nexen announced last month.
With the VR system, Nexen aims to “respond flexibly” to the rapidly changing requirements of the automotive industry towards strengthening its global competitiveness.
