Water-protection requirements for second Saarland unit would have required “considerable additional investment”
Dillingen, Germany – Pyrum Innovations AG has changed the location of a planned end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis project in Saarland, Germany, due to additional investments requirements.
In February, Pyrum announced plans to build a 20 kilotonne per annum processing plant in Homburg, Saarland, to free up capacity in its existing plant for ELTs from Luxembourg. (ERJ report)
While preparing the authorisation documents and the detailed review of the location, however, the company realised that water-protection requirements for the site would lead to “considerable additional investment”.
The extra costs would jeopardise the economic viability of the location, chief executive Pascal Klein explained in a 24 Nov statement.
Instead, the ELT processor has now identified “an alternative, logistically ideally located site” and is currently in advanced negotiations with the landowner.
Phase I of the approval process for the new site is set to begin “next week” when the construction project is presented to the local council.
Pyrum aims to submit the application for approval in the short term and to break ground on the project in the first half of 2024.
