Company obtains environmental permit for planned facility in Uddevalla
Stockholm – Swedish waste tire pyrolysis company Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has been granted an environmental permit for the construction of its planned recycling plant in Uddevalla, Sweden.
As previously announced, Enviro aims to build a waste tire pyrolysis plant in the Lillesjö district of Uddevalla to process up to 60,000 tonnes per annum of end-of-life tires (ELTs), nearly half of Sweden’s total annual ELT volume.
In a statement 28 June, the company said it obtained the permit "swiftly", after submitting an application in November last year.
Enviro, however, has not finalised the decision to establish the new plant, stating that the final decision will depend on several factors, such as securing access to ELTs and agreements covering deliveries of recovered materials.
If finalised, the company expects the new facility to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2023.
The project will be in addition to Enviro’s existing plant in Åsensbruk, Mellerud, which currently recycles 15ktpa of waste tires.
The move is part of Enviro's 'aggressive expansion plan' which was announced on 20 May.
As part of the plan, the Swedish recycler aims to establish up to four new facilities per year to ultimately build 30 plants by 2030. West Sweden and Central Europe have been identified as initial priority markets.
Enviro has developed a patented technology to recover carbon black, oil and steel from end-of-life vehicle tires.
