Projects include doubling production capacity at Prometeon Tyre Egypt, new greenfield plant for car tires
Cairo – Chinese major tire group China National Tire & Rubber Co. (CNRC) is exploring two major expansion projects in Egypt, according to the Egyptian government.
The projects were discussed during a meeting between the Egyptian prime minister Mostafa Madbouly and CNRC Chairman Wang Jijun in Cairo, said a 13 Jan government release.
The proposed projects include doubling the production capacity of heavy-duty truck tires at the company’s existing factory in El Amreya, Alexandria.
CNRC subsidiary Prometeon Tyre Egypt operates the Alexandria facility with a nameplate capacity of 1.1 million truck tires annually, of which 70% is exported aboard.
The ChemChina subsidiary also plans to establish a new manufacturing facility for passenger car tire production on a 180,000 sq.m plot adjacent to the current site.
The release did not provide further details on the investment size, production capacity or construction timeline of the projects.
