Next online event on EV elastomers scheduled for mid-June
London – UK-based Rubber In Engineering Group (RIEG) has rebranded to the IoM3 Elastomer Group, effective 1 April.
Part of the London-headquartered Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IoM3), the group organises regular webinars, technical discussion meetings and conferences to develop a broader understanding of the behaviour of elastomers and elastomer composites.
The group examines how to use elastomers in engineering design, ensure that their properties are successfully exploited and promotes the use of sustainable elastomers for use in the circular economy.
For its next event, the group is holding a webinar on 17 June on the topic of elastomers used in electric vehicles.
The event has been championed by Dr Julien Ramier of Schlumberger and Izaak Watson of Martin’s Rubber.
It will examine the different requirements and challenges including the use of elastomers in battery systems and the design of rubber component for electric vehicles.
Professor James Busfield of Queen Mary University of London will open the event giving an introduction to the IoM3 Elastomer Group.
Presentations will include: • Quiet cars don't deserve squeaky weather seals by David Bariech; GBIE • How the EV battery industry is changing and what this might mean for elastomers by Christopher Lyness; Vertical Aerospace • What use for polymers in Li-ion and solid state batteries? by Dr Andre de Almeida; Saft • The influence of new mobility trends on elastomers by Marjan Hemstede-van Urk; Arlanxeo
The IoM3 Elastomer Group is also planning a webinar on elastomers in high energy radiation on 16 September.
