Unit to supply to growing automotive industry in southern China
Kiyosu, Japan – Toyoda Gosei is establishing a new airbags and steering wheels plant in Guangdong Province, southern China, to enhance its production network in the region, where the automotive market continues to grow.
The unit will be established as a branch plant of subsidiary Toyoda Gosei (Foshan) Auto Parts Co., Ltd., and is set for operation in the summer of 2023, said Toyoda Gosei in 6 April statement.
Spanning an area of 54,000 square metres, and a building area of 43,000 square metres, the plant will be constructed in the Shunde District of Foshan City, Guangdong province.
The facility will manufacture safety system products including airbags, steering wheels and pop-up hood actuators.
Once operational, it will create 280 jobs.
The Japanese manufacturer did not disclose the investment costs for the plant, but said it will be established as a “smart plant”, featuring cobots and automatic guided vehicles.
The facility will also tap the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence to monitor processes from production to delivery.
To contribute to carbon neutrality, the unit will use energy-saving production equipment and renewable solar energy.
