Malaysia increases natural rubber production 25% in fourth quarter

China remained biggest buyer accounting for 49% of overall exports
Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian natural rubber (NR) production increased 24.6% year-on-year in the final quarter of 2024 to 117,000 tonnes, according to recently issued official figures.
Sequentially, NR output increased by 10.7% in the fourth quarter, up from 105,715 tonnes reported in the previous three months, said a 13 Feb statement by the Department of Statistics Malaysia.
Production in December last year stood at 38,200 tonnes, up 26.2% year-on-year but down 5.1% compared to November.
NR exports amounted to 44,338 tonnes in December, up 1.8% as against November.
Accounting for 49% of total exports, China remained the main destination for Malaysian NR exports, followed by Germany (12.9%), the UAE (7.3%), the US (3.7%) and Portugal (3.3%).
Gloves were the top NR-based export in December 2024, valued at RM1.5 billion, a 6.2% increase from the previous month.
