Sentury starts production at Morocco tire plant
Manufacturing unit in Tangier is set for commercial-scale output next year
Shenzhen, China – Qingdao Sentury Tire Co. has started production at its tire manufacturing facility in Tangier, in the northwest of Morocco.
The plant has gone into production and is currently running, with commercial-scale manufacturing set for next year, Sentury reported in a third-quarter results statement.
Output in 2025 is expected to reach 6-8 million units of passenger car and light truck tires per annum, the Chinese manufacturing group stated.
The full-scale commissioning, it added, will supplement output from Thailand and China and will help support the company’s current ‘strong orders’.
In addition to that, Sentury is progressing a third overseas unit in Galicia, northwest Spain, with capacity to produce 12 million light vehicle tires a year.
That project, according to Sentury, has obtained environmental impact assessment approval from the Spanish government and is awaiting further pre-construction permits.
Sentury unveiled the Spanish project in December 2021, under its "833Plus" strategy to build eight 'intelligent tire manufacturing bases' worldwide over a decade.
These will include three plants in China, two in Thailand, one each in Europe, Africa, and North America and three global R&D centres in China, Europe and North America.
Sentury currently operates a 15 million units/year plant in Jimo, Qingdao, Shandong and a site in Rayong, Thailand, with a capacity of 5 million units/year.
