Chinese tire group aims to accelerate plans to establish international manufacturing bases to serve global markets
Wuxi, China – Jiangsu General Technology Co. (General Science) is considering establishing new overseas tire plants under an international expansion plan.
The announcement comes as the group reported a four-fold increase in first half profits (ERJ report) helped by its investments in Thailand and Cambodia.
The Chinese tire maker said it is actively pursuing development opportunities in ‘domestic and international’ spaces, continuously expanding its international layout.
The move is part of General Science’s '5X strategic plan', which is particularly focussed on extending the manufacturer’s reach overseas.
In its first-half report, General Science said it aimed to “further promote the location and construction of new overseas production bases around high-quality technology.”
Overseas growth, it continued, will help the group to meet growing global demand and enhance its international competitiveness.
Over the past year, General Science has been aggressively investing in southeast Asia, completing an expansion at its production facility in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, only four months after starting production at the greenfield facility.
Production at the Cambodian unit started in May and by June, the tire maker said it had ramped up manufacturing to full annual capacity of 900,000 truck & bus tire and 5 million passenger car tires.
The group is to add capacity for another 3.5 million units of PCRs and 750,000 TBRs at the site, which also rolled out its first tire in late August. (ERJ report)
In Thailand, the Chinese group said it had started production at a 10-million PCR expansion project, with the aim to fully ramp up in 2025.
Furthermore, it said, an upgrade project at the Wuxi headquarters to add production capacity for PCR tires has also reached the production stage. (ERJ report)
