Sihanoukville, Cambodia – Jiangsu General Technology Co. (General Science) has rolled out the first tire at its expanded production facility in Sihanoukville.
The Chinese group broke ground on the €180 phase II project at the site in February, manufacturing the first tire within seven months, reported General Science 28 Aug.
General Science started production at the first phase of the Cambodian plant in May, and has been operating “day and night” to meet growing demand for its tires.
In its first phase, the factory has the capacity to produce 5 million units of passenger car tires and 900,000 truck and bus tires per year.
Phase II will add the production capacity by another 3.5 million units of PCRs and 750,000 TBRs.
In June, General Science reported operating “day and night” to respond to growing demand for its tires. (ERJ report)
In its latest announcement 28 Aug, the group said due to high inflation and interest rates overseas, “cost-effective” Chinese tires had become “increasingly favoured by European and American consumers.”
This trend, it said, drove “continued growth of overseas market demand.”
Following “the shortage of [its] products” earlier this year, General Science said it has now formed a “chain” involving its production bases in Thailand and Wuxi, China, to meet growing demand.
The Cambodian expansion project, the group said, is expected to bring the company an average annual revenue of Yuan1.7 billion yuan (€216 million) and net profit of Yuan231 million yuan after the full ramp-up.
