Improved dispersion properties mean rCB ‘could replace larger amounts of virgin carbon black’
Gothenburg, Sweden – Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has developed a new type of recovered carbon black for applications in the tire and rubber industries, the Swedish company has announced.
Offering enhanced dispersion properties, the new rCB has been produced “for some time” at Enviro’s plant in Åsensbruk, Sweden, according to the 10 Oct statement.
More particularly, Enviro said the pyrolysis by-product had “acquired properties enhancing its interaction with other chemicals and ingredients when manufacturing tires and rubber parts.”
The improved dispersion characteristics of the rCB, it added, mean end products such as rubber, tires, plastics and pigments can be produced more consistently and with “better outcomes.”
As a result of the development, Enviro envisages being able to replace larger amounts of virgin carbon black than with conventional rCBs in several rubber-compound applications.
The company went on to state that use of rCB can reduce carbon emissions by up to 93% compared to using corresponding amounts of virgin carbon black.
