Standards Testing Laboratories to maintain fabricated machine division, Texas operations
Akron, Ohio – Smithers has announced the acquisition of Massillon, Ohio-based Standards Testing Laboratories’ (STL) tire & wheel indoor testing division.
The acquisition of the tire & wheel indoor testing business will enable Smithers to increase its offerings to clients in the US, said the Akron firm's 3 Oct statement. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
STL has claimed to operate the world's largest independent dynamic testing facility for tires, wheels, and related automotive components.
The Massillon company's offerings to the rubber and automotive industries have also included static and physical testing, fleet testing, and test machines.
The acquisiton enables Smithers "to support our tire and wheel clients with a broader portfolio of regulatory and compliance testing,” said Jim Popio, VP of Smithers materials science and engineering division.
Smithers, added Popio, “is always looking to invest in opportunities that strengthen our ability to support clients in these spaces.”
