Claims to have “more ISCC Plus certified sites than any carbon black manufacturer"
Boston, Massachusetts – Cabot Corp. has achieved international sustainability and carbon certification (ISCC) Plus certification at six of its facilities, the US chemicals and carbon black supplier announced 18 Sept.
The certified sites include three reinforcing carbon facilities in Europe and the Americas as well as two masterbatch and compounding facilities in Europe and the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa regional headquarters.
With the certification, Cabot is claimed to have “more ISCC Plus certified sites than any carbon black manufacturer”, with the ambition to expand the process throughout its global network.
Among other products, Cabot said two grades from its Evolve-branded sustainable solutions have been certified by ISCC for leveraging circular value chains and certified feedstocks in the manufacturing process.
These include Vulcan 7H-C reinforcing carbon made from tire pyrolysis oil derived from end-of-life tires (ELTs) and Sterling SO-RC110 circular reinforcing carbon.
The materials, according to Cabot, are produced via a 'mass balance' approach designed to trace sustainable flow of materials through the value chain.
The Evolve technology platform is currently focused on reinforcing carbons that use circular value chains and the recovery of materials ELTs.
The company said it expects to expand the platform to other businesses within its portfolio and is focused on developing new sustainable solutions for use in speciality applications.
