Facility to manufacture marine fenders, infrastructure products for region
Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg AB has signed a land sub-leased contract (LSC) for the construction of a new marine and infrastructure products facility in southern Vietnam.
Construction work at the site is set to complete by the end of 2025 and production to start in 2026, said a Trelleborg statement issued 26 Sept.
The facility will be based in the Phu My 3 industrial park in Ba Ria Vung Tau, one of eight provinces in the ‘southern key economic zones’ of Vietnam.
According to the Swedish group, Phu My 3 SIP has a strategic position due to its proximity to major transportation routes.
In particular, the zone is 2km from Cai Mep - Thi Vai Deep Sea Port, and around 30 minutes from the new Long Thanh International Airport, expected to open in 2025.
The decision to open the new facility comes as a part of Trelleborg’s broader strategic roadmap to deliver “long-term sustainable growth” in line with market demands.
Moreover, the new site in Vietnam will reinforce Trelleborg's production capabilities in the marine-fender, marine-construction and infrastructure product areas.
The Vietnamese plant will complement the group’s existing operation in Qingdao, China, serving the Chinese as well as other global markets, Trelleborg added.
With a manufacturing facility already in China, "we see this as a logical decision to build a second facility close by,” said Richard Hepworth, president, Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure.
