Edwin Goudswaard takes over from Boris Mergell who joins Continental Automotive
Hanover, Germany – Continental Tires has named Edwin Goudswaard as the new head of research and development (R&D), effective 1 Sept.
He succeeds Dr Boris Mergell who took over as head of the ‘user experience’ business area at Continental Automotive, said the German group 19 Sept.
Goudswaard began his career at Continental in 2006, shortly after completing his mechanical engineering studies.
Following an international R&D trainee programme, he worked in virtual development and product development for original equipment tires.
Between 2013 and 2021, Goudswaard assumed various management roles in R&D and in the production facilities for two-wheeler and passenger car tires in Europe and Asia.
In 2021, he was appointed head of the ‘two-wheel tire business area’ and most recently he was responsible for Continental’s global R&D in the passenger car tire replacement business.
“Edwin Goudswaard has acquired an incredible depth and breadth of experience in a range of different positions worldwide,” said head of tires group Christian Koetz.
“This will stand him in good stead as the new head of our R&D department,” he added.
In his new position, Goudswaard will drive Continental’s ambition to enhance the economic and environmental credentials of Continental tires, as the manufacturer aims to produce 100% sustainable tires by 2050.
