Around 30% of cars at recent IAA fitted with Pirelli tires employing its Elect technology for EVs
Milan, Italy – Pirelli has reported a significant rise in OE demand for its electric vehicle (EV) tires, four years after the introduction of its flagship Elect technology.
Since its launch in 2019, Elect EV tire technology has exceeded 300 homologations, with demand increasing 125% year-on-year in first half 2023, Pirelli stated 14 Sept.
Furthermore, the tire maker noted that during the IAA Mobility car show – 5-10 Sept in Munich, Germany – almost 25% of cars on display were fitted with Pirelli tires.
For plug-in hybrids, the figure stood at 30%, said Pirelli, noting that the cars were fitted different products such as P Zero and Scorpion – all employing Elect technology.
The only hydrogen car at the show, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen, was also equipped with FSC-marked P Zero, made with FSC certified natural rubber, Pirelli further pointed out.
Pirelli describes Elect as a package of technologies developed to meet the requirements of electric and plug-in hybrid cars, due to their heavy weight, instant torque and acoustically silent powertrain.
Tests carried out by Pirelli have shown how mileage can be increased by up to 10%, according to the company.
