NHTSA: Tire pressure monitoring system failing to warn drivers of safety-risk situations…
Washington – Tesla Inc. is recalling a large number of vehicles in the US due to a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) fault, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced.
A total of 694,304 vehicles are potentially covered by the recall involving Tesla’s 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3, and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles, NHSTA said 17 Dec.
According to the agency’s notice, the TPMS warning light on these vehicles “may not remain illuminated between drive cycles, failing to warn the driver of low tire pressure.”
As such, it stated, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of ‘federal motor vehicle safety standard number 138, tire pressure monitoring systems’.
To address the issue, Tesla has also released a free over-the-air software update and is to send out owner notification letters are by 15 Feb, 2025, noted the NHTSA.
