Partnership to support ambitious “large-scale tire recycling” venture with Antin, Michelin
Stockholm - Automation major Siemens has signed an agreement with Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) for a collaboration in the scale-up Enviro’s waste tire pyrolysis activities across Europe.
Under the MoU, Siemens will support Enviro’s previously announced JV involving private equity firm Antin to create “the world’s first large-scale tire recycling group” (ERJ report).
Supported by Michelin, the ‘JV’ aims to establish plants across Europe, with a total capacity to process 1 million tonnes of end-of-life tires (ELTs) by 2030.
With Siemens on board, Enviro will have access to “extensive experience in automation and digitalisation for efficient industrial production”, the Swedish recycler said 14 Sept.
Already a major supplier of both hardware and software to the tire industry, Siemens has shown “great interest” in supporting Enviro's upcoming phase of industrialisation, it added.
Through the formation of the JV, Siemens said Enviro had established “the right industrial structure” to contribute to the sustainable transformation of the tire industry.
"Digitalisation and automation will be central to the rollout of our technology [to which] Siemens can add extensive valuable knowledge," said Enviro CEO Thomas Soerensson.
“As a supplier and partner, Siemens wants to support the new tire recycling company," said Maria Grahm, business unit manager process automation, Siemens Digital Industries.
Siemens' goal is to "help accelerate the important journey towards increased sustainability," added Grahm, commenting in the Enviro announcement.
