Tokyo – Four Bridgestone tire production facilities in Japan have acquired the ISCC Plus sustainability certification, the group announced 8 Sept.
The most-recently certified facilities are: Kurume factory, Fukaoka; Tosu factory, Saga; Tochigi factory, Tochigi and Hikone factory in Shiga, according to Bridgestone.
The recent certification brings the total of certified Bridgestone factories to 12, including the group’s tire manufacturing plants in Wilson, North Carolina and Trenton, South Carolina.
In addition, the group’s technology centre in Rome, as well as its Firestone polymer products manufacturing units in Lake Charles, Louisiana and Akron Ohio have been awarded the environmental recognition.
ISCC Plus certification is said to verify that raw materials derived from renewable resources, such as biomass and recycled streams, are effectively tracked throughout the supply-chain.
The system uses a mass-balance approach to manage how ‘sustainable’ raw materials are integrated with petroleum-based raw materials at all stages of the production process.
