Kraton SBC enhanced enables "durability, crack resistance and extended product life" for new product line
Zirndorf, Germany – Playmobil is using Kraton styrene-butadiene copolymer (SBC) materials to enhance the sustainability of its toys, Kraton’s recently issued Sustainability Report 2022 shows.
The German toy maker used Kraton SBC to improve end-of-life recyclability and durability of its first eco-friendly product line Wiltopia, said a case study included in the report released 24 July.
For the project, Playmobil also partnered with electrical and electronic equipment waste recycler Coolrec for the supply of ABS plastics from refrigerator waste.
To enhance performance and quality, Playmobil used Kraton SBC as an additive to increase the impact strength of the recycled ABS and maintain good product stiffness.
In combination with the recycled waste, Kraton said its polymers enabled "enhanced durability, crack-resistance and extended product-life for the new toy line."
Themed around nature and animals, the Wiltopia playsets are made from an average of over 80% sustainable material, according to Kraton.
