German supplier to discontinue supply of conventional Mesamoll additives with effect from October
Cologne, Germany – Lanxess AG is to discontinue distribution of a conventional plasticiser range used in rubber and polyurethanes: switching customers to a 'more sustainable' alternatives.
As of 1 Oct, the German chemicals supplier will solely distribute versions of its Mesamoll plasticiser with “significantly reduced” product carbon footprint (PCF).
The replacement additives are “phthalate-free, well-gelling and exceptionally saponification-resistant”, according to Lanxess' 28 Aug announcement.
The products can be applied for a wide range of polymers, including rubber, PVC and polyurethane systems, the chemicals and polymers maker pointed out.
According to Lanxess, more than 30% of the input materials will come from “fully sustainable sources” resulting in a reduction in the PCF of around 20%.
As the PCF reduction is calculated via mass balance, the switchover will have “no impact on the product quality or performance of the additives,” it stated.
Customers will "receive the usual product quality with the additional benefit of an improved sustainability profile,” said Stefan Tiebach, head of global marketing at polymer additives business.
