Hikes of up to 9% on products manufactured in North America
Boston, Massachusetts – Cabot Corp is to increase prices for all carbon black products sold by its reinforcement materials segment in North America, the company announced 16 Aug.
Covering all shipments on or after 1 Oct, or as customer contracts allow, the increase will range from 6% to 9%, depending on product and packaging type.
This price increase will address “higher costs associated with continued inflationary impacts on manufacturing operations,” stated Cabot.
The impacts, it said, include higher operating and maintenance costs needed to ensure reliable and consistent supply of carbon black.
The price increase will also address additional costs “to advance sustainability objectives” of both Cabot and its customers, added the statement.
Cabot noted that it is investing in projects to meet government requirements to control air emissions from its carbon black manufacturing facilities in North America.
“The cost and complexity of Cabot’s manufacturing operations are increasing substantially as these large and highly technical systems are constructed and put into service,” it explained.
Meanwhile, investment in the development of new sustainable products and processes is required to reduce carbon footprint across the industry.
According to Cabot, this includes a pipeline of development projects supporting Evolve technology platform of sustainable reinforcing carbons.
