Hiratsuka, Japan – Yokohama Rubber Co. (YRC), is to close its 270-employee plant in Prague, which manufactures cross-ply off-road tires, the Japanese group has announced.
Production at the Czech plant – operated by subsidiary Yokohama TWS Czech Republic – is to end by June, according to YRC’s 17 Jan statement.
“The plant’s production of cross-ply tires faces persistent inefficiencies and relies on an outdated platform,” explained the release.
Production of tires, including tires for agricultural machinery, from the unit will be transferred to other YRC plants.
“Yokohama TWS is implementing targeted measures to address the current challenges in the off-highway tire industry,” continued the statement.
The company, it added, is launching a strategic programme to improve efficiency, enhance service levels and ensure long-term competitiveness.
