Has received request from Chinese authorities “to relocate the site of the current factory”
London – Yokohama Rubber Co. (YRC) is reviewing options for a relocation of its tire production factory in Hangzhou, in eastern China.
In a statement provided to ERJ, the Japanese group said it had received a request from the government “to relocate the site of the current factory”.
“We are considering the future. At this time, there are no specific plans that can be announced,” said the 10 Aug statement.
The Japanese tire maker's comments came in response to local press reports about YRC plans to establish a new plant in Qiantang (New) District, Hangzhou City.
The project involved an ‘intelligent' tire factory with R&D centre, into which YRC would later integrate its existing Hangzhou production operation.
YRC currently operates two production facilities in China, including the Hangzhou Yokohama Tire with a nameplate capacity to produce 5 million passenger car tires.
The group also operates a 6.4-million units rated plant in Suzhou, where it makes passenger car tires and truck & bus tires.
