Said to match performance of conventional tubing materials, including silicone and standard TPEs...
Leading-edge designs and applications showing how elastomer materials contribute to all aspects of life and lifestyle in the 21st century:
Avient Corp. has developed a bio-derived thermoplastic elastomer for biopharmaceutical tubing, the company has announced.
The initial grade of Versaflex HC Bio branded TPE is formulated with nearly 40% first-generation biomass content, according to the release.
The 71 Shore A elastomer, it said, matches the weldability, kink-resistance and tensile strength of conventional medical tubing materials, including silicone and standard TPEs.
With a greenhouse gas emissions rating of 2.35 kg CO2e / kg product, the bio-TPE offers a nearly 25% lower cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint than standard grades, stated Avient.
