Finnish tire maker expands Dayton workforce in run-up to doubling capacity
Dayton, Tennessee – Nokian Tyres has completed a recruitment campaign at its tire manufacturing facility in Dayton as it prepares to double production capacity at the site by 2024.
The company has now hired 125 workers to bring total staffing to 475 employees, said a company announcement issued 1 Aug.
The majority of new employees serve as production operators, while there are also specialists in maintenance, quality, logistics and general administration.
Nokian said it is currently adding equipment at the site that will enable the factory to produce 4 million all-season and all-weather tires per year by 2024.
Construction also continues on a 600,000-tire warehouse next to the production building that is set to be operational in summer 2024.
The storage facility will join the company’s nine-warehouse network throughout the US and Canada.
Nokian opened its Dayton factory in fall 2019 and began producing tires for commercial sale in early 2020.
The current equipment expansion will allow the Finnish group to add light truck tires to the factory’s product mix.
