Boulder, Colorado – US tire pyrolysis company Bolder Industries Inc. is to supply recovered carbon black (rCB) to Canadian rubber compounder and manufacturer Soucy Techno under a multi-year deal.
The recent agreement builds on a previous deal between the two North American companies, which saw Bolder supply ‘BolderBlack’ materials to the Quebec-based rubber company.
The partnership between began in 2016 with a co-development of plastics masterbatch at Soucy’s Sherbrooke-based lab, said Bolder in a statement 18 July.
Since then, Soucy has continued to expand the use of the rCB in its polymer components with “a 1,000% increase in volume offtake of BolderBlack over the last five years”.
“As is typical, we started small with Soucy to demonstrate our ability to deliver quality product [of high] value,” said Tony Wibbeler, CEO & founder of Bolder Industries.
Every year since, Wibbeler said, Soucy has “doubled down” on its support of Bolder and increased its volume of rCB offtake.
According to Bolder, the cooperation has diverted over 1.5 million end-of-life tires (ELTs) from landfills and cut 39 kilotonnes of CO2 emissions.
In addition to environmental benefits and cost savings, Soucy said it saw “consistent performance of the material month-after-month” throughout the collaboration.
“We don't have to worry about changes in carbon-content, bulk density or particle size, which are key to our process and product performance”, said Francois Bedard, director general of Soucy Techno.
Bolder supplies Soucy from its site in Maryville, which processes nearly 2 million ELTs annually.
In 2023, Bolder will begin development of a second facility in Terre Haute, Indiana – formerly a Pyrolyx plant – with capacity to process 6.6 million ELTs per year.
