Calprene H6180S technology “fully compatible” with flexible polyethylene recycling stream in Europe
Madrid – Dynasol group’s styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS) technology has been approved by Recyclass, a European certification programme for the recyclability of packaging materials.
The Calprene H6180S thermoplastic styrenic elastomer (TPS) is used to enhance the elasticity of reproduced PE based films, said Dynasol in a recent statement.
Within the scope of the evaluation carried out by AIMPLAS, a film made of 95% PE and 5% of Calprene H6180S was tested, with no other components or decoration.
The results showed the SEBS to be compatible with the recycling processes of the PE flexible plastic stream, where the density of the polyolefin remained below 0,97 g/cm3 and the elastomer concentration at or below 5%.
Furthermore, Dynasol said extrusion trials showed that the recycled material containing up to 25% of this technology can be used in “high-quality applications” such as PE blown films.
The recycled content, it added, will have no impact on the colouration of the clear recyclates.
