Energy group targets sustainable aviation fuel, low-carbon road fuel with new Teesside facility
London – Greenergy International is building an end-of-life tire (ELT) pyrolysis plant in the UK, mainly for the production of sustainable fuels, the company has announced.
To be built in Stockton-on-Tees, northern England, the facility will feature two fuels production units, including "the UK’s first" sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) plant.
The other unit will convert ELTs into recovered carbon black and low-carbon transport fuels for road and marine industry, explained the UK fuel distributor.
Subject to planning approval, construction of the plant will begin in 2025 and commercial production will commence in 2027, added the company's statement.
Both projects will be located adjacent to Greenenergy’s existing Teesside biofuels manufacturing facility.
“The SAF and end-of-life tires projects are part of Greenergy’s strategy to support the UK’s energy transition,” said CEO Christian Flach.
“The location on Teesside will help us expand our presence in the area and create more local jobs,” he added.
