Brussels – Bridgestone is “continuing to foster strategic partnerships to identify or co-develop technologies as we did for TechSyn with Solvay and Arlanxeo,” according to a company statement.
The Japanese-based group employed TechSyn in its Turanza 6 summer touring tire, which was launched on the market about four months ago.
“We continue to explore collaborations with our partners Arlanxeo, Solvay as well as others for future product developments,” a Bridgestone spokeswoman said in reply to ERJ's enquiry about the status of the TechSyn project.
At Bridgestone, “we focus on developing and using the best materials and technologies in our tire development, the spokeswoman noted in a written statement.
This, she pointed out, "could be TechSyn or any other suitable alternative delivering our sustainability and performance standards.”
Bridgestone, Arlanxeo and Solvay launched TechSyn in early 2021, following a 24-month collaborative R&D effort between the three partners
The innovative platform combined the partners’ respective expertise in the fields of tire compounds, synthetic rubber and reinforcing-silica technologies.
Tires made with TechSyn compounds were stated to exhibit up to 30% better wear efficiency and a 5% reduction in rolling resistance – compared to conventional Bridgestone summer tires.
The partners also claimed to have achieved a “unique” balance across rolling resistance, wear and wet-grip which could be adapted by adjusting compounds to meet varying tire-performance needs.
