Latest news on fitments, testing and related innovations from the global tire industry:
Pirelli has homologated 10 different tires to equip the Lotus Eletre, the first electric “hyper-SUV” by the British sports car maker. With different tire sizes for front and rear, this new car will be fitted with a 22-inch and a 23-inch P Zero, both available with or without self-seal technology. Also available is the 22-inch P Zero Corsa. Pirelli said it had to “raise the technological level” to develop a high-performance tire for the battery electric vehicle. The tire has an “optimised footprint and specific compounds that maximise grip”. The feature reduces wheelspin under acceleration caused by the instant torque from electric motors. The tires, developed through the use of virtual design tools, also offer lower rolling resistance and an A rating for wet grip.
