Step "urgently needed" to provide clarity on implementation of new data-access laws in the automotive sector...
Brussels – The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has welcomed an agreement 27 June between the European Parliament and Member States on the EU Data Act.
"By making data more accessible to all, this landmark legislation aims to stimulate a competitive data market, opening opportunities for data-driven innovation," said ETRMA.
However, it added, the Data Act "urgently needs to be complemented with sectoral regulation" to provide clarity on its implementation in the automotive sector.
This step, said ETRMA, is essential for the development of the full EU value-chain of connected services to support a future of smart and sustainable mobility.
ETRMA, therefore, called on the European Commission to "in good time" introduce regulatory proposals on "sector-specific access to in-vehicle data, functions, and resources."
This, it argued, would "provide a much-needed boost to digital service providers, in particular third-party suppliers, while putting end-users at the heart of service delivery."
ETRMA has previously called for fair access to in-vehicle data for all manufacturers to create a ‘level playing field’ for those acting in the transport ecosystem.
