New centre builds on previous collaborations between Chinese automaker and tire manufacturer
Beijing – Linglong Tire and Geely Automobile Research Institute have established a technology lab to develop and apply virtual tuning of tires.
The ‘tuning in house’ (TIH) laboratory builds on a joint project launched last year by the tire maker and the Chinese automotive group to jointly advance virtual tire development by the partners.
The project uses computer simulation to enhance the driving performance of tires in real world.
The new laboratory has been established to provide a “platform” to promote virtual tuning in more Geely projects, said Linglong 13 June.
At the same time, the two companies will deepen research on "consistency improvement" and the evaluation of tires and vehicle performance at the centre.
Furthermore, the cooperation is expected to help with the independent development of advanced chassis, and more broadly the automotive industry in China, said Linglong.
Linglong and Geely have been in cooperation since 2012 with Linglong supplying OE services to the full range of Geely car models.
In 2019, the two partners extended their strategic cooperation agreement to cover product design & development and new technology applications.
That agreement, according to previous Linglong reports, involves new technology application, quality assurance, cost optimisation, and manufacturing globalisation.
