Goodyear’s ‘Flight Radial’ tire to be fitted on aircraft as it enters service in 2024
Akron, Ohio – Goodyear’s Flight Radial aircraft tires have been approved by Airbus as part of its fitment selection for the new A321XLR.
The tire is one of Goodyear's “most advanced aviation products”, said the US tire maker, which will be presenting the tire during the Paris Air Show 19-25 June.
The “ultra-lightweight tire” received system part certification from Airbus and was selected to deliver weight-efficient and cost-efficient performance, said Goodyear 15 June.
Technologies used in the product support “dimensional stability for longer life and increased cut resistance,” Goodyear added.
Furthermore, the radial construction of the tire promotes more landings while the “optimised bead design” offers reduced weight.
The tire has been designed to find “a balance between the required robustness and keeping the tire as light as possible,” said Octavian Velcan, managing director OTR & Aviation EMEA.
Features include “featherweight” aluminium core bead technology, that contributes to weight-saving “while maintaining tire and bead geometry, strength and durability.”
The tire also uses a ‘merged cord technology’, winding DuPont’s Kevlar with polyamides to enhance strength and reduce weight.
The technology also decreases 'casing growth', thereby improving resistance to foreign object damage and offers “excellent wear resistance for long tread life.”
A “DiamondWeave Belt” technology employs a ‘specialised cord placement for improved treadwear, thereby optimising tire performance, added Goodyear
