Recovered carbon black makes the grade at one of the world's most demanding motorsport events
Stockholm – Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has supplied recovered carbon black (rCB) for Michelin racing tires used at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.
According to Enviro, the rCB was supplied from its waste tire pyrolysis plant in Åsensbruk, Sweden, which is based on its patented pyrolysis technology.
"This shows that Enviro's materials can be used even in one of the world's most prestigious and demanding motorsport races,” said Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.
Use in such a demanding application is "promising for a future where recycled materials and circular methods will play an increasingly important role", added Sörensson.
The Michelin tires for this year's 100th staging of Le Mans are claimed to break new ground in terms of the level of incorporation of sustainable materials.
These include a 63% sustainable material tire used on the Green GT Mission H24, a hydrogen racing prototype car, which featured at the event.
Other cars, including the electric Porsche 718 CaymanGT4e Performance 100% electric, used Michelin’s 53% sustainable tires during the race in north west France.
